Go Blue?

Well here it is, the University of Michigan School of Social Work that I will be attending in the fall. I sent them my $200 admission fee yesterday so it's pretty official. I also found out that I won't be getting nearly enough financial aid to survive, since this school is obscenely expensive. I'm kinda freaking out about it but my mother assures me that everything will be okay. I am not entirely looking forward to 16 months of being completely broke, but hopefully it will be worth it. And, coming from two parents who attended Michigan State, it's still pretty hard for me to say things like, "Go Blue" or "Hail to the Victors." I'm sure it will come with time but as it is, I'm selling my football tickets.

Like Old Times

What

The last few days have been pretty cool... Smita has been staying at my place and I've been going out on the town, and for a minute I felt like I was twenty again, chilling with the old Charley's crew. Among my favorites is this handsome fellow, isn't he adorable? What a great picture.

Once upon a time, Daria was my favorite TV show. They played it all the time on MTV, and I would watch it over and over again, no matter how many times I'd seen an episode. The other day I stumbled across a Daria video at the library. Like finding gold! Here's the weird part: No one but me seems to have liked or even watched this show when it was on. Am I the only Daria fan out there?

408 Jello Shots

Leen and Nate made these FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHT jello shots for Leen's going away party in a matter of a few short hours. They really are extremely talented and experienced jello shot makers. I aspire to be just as good some day, but at the moment, I am not even close. So, as promised, this is how Leen ended up in the driveway. And I was not so sober afterwards either.

This picture was taken at Leen's goodbye party (she's on the right) at around 8am. When I first saw this, I thought it was one of those funny staged photos that drunk people take now and then, but after hearing the whole story, I am assured that it is 100% authentic. Leen and Matt did fall asleep in his driveway after a night of heavy drinking. Stay tuned for a funny picture of what put them there.

I Think I Know...

For those of you who have been following the past 2 days of drama, (as in: will I go to EMU or U of M; will I keep working at HelpSource or not; will I complete school in 16 months, 20 months, or 4 years; etc...) well, I think I know what I am going to do. But I need to think about it for a little while longer before making an announcement. So for now, it's a secret!

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

I saw this movie last night and I have to say that it is by far my favorite flick so far this year. Gunfights, car chases, and intellegent comic relief from the great Vince Vaughn, PLUS Brad Pitt's best performance since Fight Club, and Angelina Jolie's most provocative since Original Sin (haven't seen that one? Rent it!)... all of this equals a film that was right up my alley. Check it out, my rating: A+

When it Rains, it Pours

Yeah. Wow. 20 minutes after I found out I got into EMU, I got an email from the University of Michigan accepting me into the School of Social Work. Now my heart and gut are all confused. I am THRILLED that I got into both of the schools I applied to. But now what do I do? I have to admit, going to U of M is quite appealing, if only for the prestigious name and reputation. Is that enough reason to attend a university?

My mom just called to tell me the good news: I got into the School of Social Work at Eastern! Hooray! After being wait-listed at the University of Michigan and not hearing anything for what seemed like forever from EMU, I was feeling really discouraged, like I was going no where and doing nothing. Now, I feel as though a whole other chapter of my life is ready to be written. To answer the question, "What will you do if you get into U of M?" I really feel as though my gut, heart, and all that is telling me to go back to EMU, the campus that I grew to love in my undergrad, because I feel that their program is more appropriate for my needs. Oh yeah, and it's a whole hell of a lot cheaper. And as for those lazy days in bed watching tv that I was looking forward to? Time to put that off for a few more years; working two jobs and going to school is going to be rough. I can do it though, right now I'm feeling like I could do anything.

A Day to Relax

Don't you just love those days when you can just lie in bed and watch tv? I think I do... I can't quite remember. My next day off is two weeks away. This post should perhaps be on Things Hated, titled "I Work Too Damn Much," but I was trying to be positive. Tried, failed, oh well.

Montel Williams

I have a crazy obsession with The Montel Williams show. I think mostly because I like how he finds people who need help and he helps them, rather than just airing their problems on national TV and walking away. My only issue with the show: It's on at 3, and I often work at 4 so I miss the last half. How come it can't be one hour earlier? Is that too much to ask?

Jenna Boyd

This past weekend, the teenage girls I work with really wanted to see The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants... hmm. I took them, but I wasn't entirely happy about it, considering The Longest Yard had just opened as well and I am a much bigger fan of stupid comedy than sappy chick flicks. Imagine my delight and surprise when I find that one of my favorite little actresses is in the flick. Jenna Boyd, from such classics as Dicky Roberts: Former Child Star and The Missing (okay, so I haven't seen The Missing yet but Dickie Roberts, come on, I own it). So Traveling Pants ended up being decent, anyway. Maybe it would have been a little better if David Spade was in it.

Happy Birthday Alaina!

Well, actually, her birthday was yesterday, but I think she'll forgive me for being a day late. This little firecracker is a JOY to be around, if you can handle her slightly (slightly?) perverse sense of humor. She was great at my Halloween party this past year as a lovely mermaid, how creative! And, her birthday party this Sunday should be a rockin' good time with some crazy crazy sangria all over the place. I can't wait.

Now THAT'S What I'm Talking About!

What a game last night. I was standing there at the GP in front of the tv for the fourth quarter (work, what work?) and it was all I could do to not bite my fingernails right off. Again, what a game. I felt so massively relieved when the Pistons finally won, it was like a load of bricks off my shoulders. I felt as if a close friend or family member had made some great accomplishment. I could be getting too attached.

Happy Birthday Kelly!!

Kelly and Evan
Originally uploaded by primalktc.
Today is a good friend's birthday; unfortunately I am at work and not celebrating with her, but I did get to see her last night. She was looking lovely in all her 10 minutes of birthday glory. I used to see Kelly all the time when we worked together, but now we have both moved on from the restaurant industry (thank GOD) and seeing her is a real treat. I love this cute picture of her and her husband, Evan, on their wedding day. How cute.
